5th Dr. Hans Riegel Academy

with great Science Slam in the Wolfgang Paul-lecture hall of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn

The Dr Hans Riegel Academy takes place every two years. This year is no exception: from 19-22 September 2024, the young scientists of our MINT-TANK can look forward to a challenging and inspiring academy programme.

Prof Dr Martina Mara, an Austrian media psychologist, will kick off the event by giving the MINT TANK students an exciting insight into "Artificial Intelligence and Human-Machine Interaction".

For the final day, we have been able to attract the well-known astrophysicist, science journalist and natural philosopher Harald Lesch, who will speak on the topic of "Energy transition and climate change" and will certainly provide food for thought.

These are just two of the many speakers we have been able to secure for exciting and inspiring lectures at the 5th Dr Hans Riegel Academy.

Interactive workshops on current topics from science and society such as

  • "Data science in biomedical research" (Dr Ludwig, University Hospital Bonn)
  • "Measuring the universe with gravitational lenses" (Dr Reischke, University of Bochum) or
  • "Mixed reality and haptics - how can we feel digital 3D objects?" (Prof Dr Kruijff, Bonn/Rhine-Sieg University of Applied Sciences)

round off the varied programme.

One of the highlights of the Academy is definitely the Science Slam, which will take place on Thursday evening (19 September 2024) in the Wolfgang-Paul-lecture hall at the University of Bonn. The Science Slam of the Dr. The Hans Riegel Foundation is intended to encourage young scientists to bring their own work closer to an audience in a simple and understandable way. One of the goals is to promote the communication skills of young scientists. In addition, we are aiming to awaken interest in a wide range of scientific topics among a broad audience. The slams are judged by the audience. Comprehensibility and entertainment value of the lecture are also evaluated in addition to the scientific content.

This year's "slammers" are all former winners of the Dr. Hans Riegel prizes.

The science slam will be moderated by geologist and science slammer Thora Schubert and science performer Eric Siemes.
